Shalom Presidency again took a lead in organising another interesting event, “BEHES”. As the name suggests it is a step in reinforcing the oratory and debating skills in children. Improving and promoting effective communication, BEHES is organised by a non-profit organization which organises workshops, tournaments and language labs. It is an initiative and collaborative event of the Shalom Presidency and BEHES to come together and present “The BEHES Gurgaon Chapter” which will provide platform to the students of the Gurgaon region and beyond to enter into a healthy competition.

The competition was an inter school event was a two day affair with more than 8 schools participating. The schools which competed are prominent names of NCR including Maxfort-Dwarka, Salwan-Gurgaon, Indrapuram Public School, JM International-Dwarka, SVIS-Dwarka, Shalom Presidency School, GEMS-Gurgaon & Presidium-Gurgaon.

The competition had two teams with three speakers facing off against each other in each debate to argue a set of motion. Points were awarded not merely for extravagant language. What mattered was the quantity and quality of the arguments. The competition was held in a knockout format with one winning team emerging at the end of a series of challenging debates. The motions were formulated from a suggested reading list that was given to the students before the competition.

There were best speakers selected from both the categories on both days i.e. Cubs (age 9 – 13 years) and Lions (14 years and above). Shalom Presidency takes great pride in saying that Jayantika Ranjan (Grade VI) and Vanshika Chauhan (Grade VII) bagged the bronze medal and Ira Bhardwaj ( Grade VI) bagged the silver medal as the best speakers.
The championship teams were SVIS Sec 18 Dwarka–Cubs and Maxfort Dwarka -Lions which take part in the MAHA BEHES to be organised in December 2016.

Next time don’t say “Behes mat karna”!!!!!!!!!!!!!
